A Loving Tribute to Vino Valentino
It is with a very heavy heart that I am ready to share that my precious little man, Vino Valentino, went over the Rainbow Bridge on Monday, January 29th. He passed peacefully in my arms with the assistance of a mobile vet who came to our home. He was diagnosed by UC Davis Veterinary Hospital with bone cancer in his knee and pelvis that had spread to his lung. It came on very quickly and gave us no advance warning. We managed his pain, but his joyous spirit was gone. He could no longer get up on his own and it was obviously painful for him to walk.
Mike was fishing in Argentina when I knew that it was time to let Vino go and be free of any more pain. It was the hardest thing to do, especially alone, to make the arrangements for a peaceful and loving passing in our home, but I owed it to Vino to make sure his last day wasn’t his worst day. I took him to In-N-Out Burger and ordered a double-double cheeseburger (no lettuce or tomatoes) and a side of fries. We sat beside a beautiful lake in my community where Vino always loved to take me on a walk. He couldn’t believe he got to eat such a special treat. He did share a few of his fries with me. The rest of our time together that day was all about Vino and letting him know how loved he was.
I can’t believe he’s gone, and I miss him with all my heart. He was the most affectionate, funny, and intelligent dog I have ever had. He was my best friend, travel companion, squirrel wrangler, hunting buddy, walking and hiking partner, kayak captain, bed warmer, dance partner, agility partner, protector, wine tasting sidekick and all-around best guy to hang out with every single day.
The memories of all our amazing adventures will live on in me. We had a very special bond and we both knew it. I always told him that I would take care of him no matter what, and I did just that, even though it was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. I’ll love you forever Vino.
